Last night, tens of thousands of Alaskans sent a clear message: We are ready for change.
I’m so grateful for every Alaska voter who made their voice heard yesterday and cast their ballot for our movement. And I’m committed, over the next 76 days, to bringing as many Alaskans as we can into this fight with us.
From day one, this campaign has been about all Alaskans, regardless of where they live or who they vote for. That’s just as true today as ever.
Alongside our unique open primary system, Alaska also has ranked choice voting in the general. That means in November, voters will be able to rank up to four Senate candidates – myself, incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan, and two others who will be determined in the coming days – in their order of preference.
This system rewards bipartisanship. Ted Stevens often said, to hell with politics, put Alaska first. Ranked choice voting encourages that mindset, and that’s exactly why I’m running.
We are in a moral moment that needs real leadership. But instead, incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan has repeatedly taken votes that are injurious to Alaskans. He voted more than ten times for the Iran war, which is driving up our costs. He supported gutting healthcare, public radio, disaster relief, and veterans’ benefits. And he was revealed as the top recipient of corporate trawling industry donations in the Senate.
He exemplifies what’s wrong in DC – a rigged system that puts corporate greed and self-serving politicians before the people. That’s why I’m running: Because Alaskans need an independent voice in the Senate who will stand up to anyone to put Alaska first, not DC special interests or billionaire donors.
Last night’s result was a product of months of traveling to every corner of the state, and while I wouldn’t do anything differently, that means we’re heading into the general election with a huge cash-on-hand disadvantage.
That’s why, if you have the means to make a contribution today, I would deeply appreciate it. Anything you can contribute – whether it’s $500 or $5 – will go a long way toward helping us fund the strongest campaign possible over the next 76 days. It’s how we’ll win the general election and take back Alaska for working people.
We need to get every single person we can out to vote in November. Because the future of our state, our kids and our grandkids, and our fish, family, and freedom all depend on it.
With all of you, we can do that and we can win this November. Thank you!
